Formulator Hub
Where questions become skills

Practical guides you will actually use
You hit those limits the moment you want to design your own products instead of copying them from the same old blog post.
I know you can make a beautiful cream or a colourful shampoo bar from a blog post. I also know you've done it dozens of times, you're good at it, and you really enjoy the process. But when you try changing something like swapping an oil, adjusting the texture, fixing a batch that separated, the results are suddenly very different, and you're not sure why.
That's because you were working from instructions instead of understanding.
If you’re here, I know that...
You can follow a formula, but you can’t explain why the percentages matter or what would happen if you changed something.
You've bought ingredients that sounded promising, then realised you don't quite know how to use them.
You've had batches look fine at first, but then separate or smell off weeks later.
Sharing products feels risky because you're not confident that your preservation and stability work is solid enough.
The difference between a formulator and someone following a recipe is knowing what to do when something goes wrong.
What you will learn here
When something doesn't work, you need to be able to figure out why. That means understanding what each ingredient does, why it's in the formula, and what happens when you adjust it. Once you have that, you can trace a problem back to its cause and decide what to change next.
That's what I teach here.
The goal is that you understand your formula well enough to explain every decision you made.

"If you cannot explain why your formula works, you are not in control of it, you can't fix it, trust it or be proud of it")
Timi Racz

"I don't teach trends or shortcuts. I teach you how formulation works so you can explain every decision you make."
Hello, I'm Timi.
I'm a cosmetic chemist and qualified teacher, and I still work in R&D at a luxury brand while running Formulator Hub.
I built this in 2019 after finishing course after course that taught me dozens of formulas but never explained any of them. I could follow the steps, but the moment something went wrong, I had no idea why. I wanted to do it differently. Here, we focus on the foundations first and build on them by layering your skills.
That's still what this is. I still formulate every day in an R&D lab for a luxury brand, and everything I teach here comes from that experience.

Lexie is a free AI assistant I trained to walk you through INCI lists the way a formulator would.
She'll tell you what each ingredient is, what it's doing in the formula, and how it fits with everything else on the list.
It's a good place to start if you're new to reading labels, and a useful reference if you're already formulating.
To chat with Lexie, you will need a ChatGPT account (a free account works).
